To become a Torchbearer of the Covenant of Hekate you have to first be a member.
In June 2017 the Covenant of Hekate appointed a Collegium, a group of Torchbearers who together have created a new system for future Torchbearer applications, to make the process more transparent and the process more equal for all members wishing to undertake this important responsibility in our community.
The term “Torchbearer” is one of many titles given to the Goddess Hekate, but also to other psychopomps in antiquity. It is not a role of hierarchy in our community, but rather one of responsibility. The term was decided on by Sorita d’Este when she created the Covenant of Hekate in 2010, and at the time was not known to be publicly used in this context, making it an ideal term without resonances from other traditions. Torchbearers undertake to shine light for others in our community and in the wide Hekatean community through their work – which can take a variety of forms.
Some, but not all, Torchbearers also facilitate Sanctuaries in the Covenant of Hekate.
