Sorita d’Este is the author of The Rite of Her Sacred Fires written as a devotional offering upon the completion of the anthology book project Hekate Her Sacred Fires in May 2010. She created the Covenant of Hekate was created in November 2010 as a private community of devotees with the desire to expand their knowledge, understanding and experience of the Goddess Hekate with others, and was supported at the time by nearly 20 “co-founders” all of whom were contributors to the Hekate: Her Sacred Fires project.
Today the Covenant of Hekate have more than 450 full members who participate in online discussions, shared devotional and creative projects and meet in Sanctuaries facilitated by Torchbearers. The membership process involves a two-part self-dedication ritual and which is explained in full in the “Membership” section.
As the founder of the CoH Sorita holds the role of Keybearer, which she considers like other ‘titles’ to be a job description within the Covenant of Hekate. She is supported in this role by the CoH Admin Team who she turns to for advice and help with administrative matters. She also facilitates the Sanctuary of Hekate Soteira and the Sanctuary of Hekate Kleidouchos.
As an author, researcher and publisher, Sorita manifests her knowledge and passion for the Mysteries through her work. Her research pushes at the boundaries of Western Esoterica and beyond, often questioning and challenging the status quo to inspire others towards experiential mysticism with firm foundations built on lessons learned from history, standing positively today and looking with enthusiasm towards the future. She passionately believes that it is possible to manifest creativity, positivity, love and enchantment through the creation of independent, free-thinking and more spiritual communities, with firm foundations in truth, natural balance and generosity. She has authored / compiled more than 20 books, including Hekate Liminal Rites, Artemis: Virgin Goddess of the Sun & Moon, Hekate: Keys to the Crossroads (ed.), Hekate: Her Sacred Fires (ed.) Visions of the Cailleach, The Isles of the Many Gods and Practical Elemental Magick (click here for a full list).
When she is not writing, reading or asking awkward questions, she can be found getting her hands dirty growing useful plants, tending to trees, wild flowers and herbs in a sacred apple grove. She is the owner of Avalonia, an independent publishing house specializing in books on a wide range of spiritual and esoteric subjects, and mother to the Mighty Adventurer, a gorgeous and unique boy, who is definitely the apple of his mother’s eye.
