In the mystical crossroads where ancient wisdom meets modern compassion, as a Keybearer within the Covenant of Hekate, I have focused on transforming the Sanctuary of Hecate Brimo into a beacon of hope and community. Originally conceived as a haven for the seeker, this sanctuary has embraced additional responsibilities and is evolving into a local force for change in our community.
Taking on the mantle of Keybearer within the Covenant of Hekate brought a profound sense of responsibility. On its current mission, the Sanctuary of Hecate Brimo serves not only as a virtual space for embracing the five virtues but also as a spiritual hub for those drawn to the teachings and practices of Hekate. As the Sanctuary evolves, new offerings, such as classes related to the goddess and the other things I am passionate about, including holistic wellness and mindfulness, will be available.
However, the commitment to helping those in need remains at the core of the sanctuary's mission. The proceeds from our shop, catering to the pagan community, continue to fuel charitable endeavors, echoing the nurturing spirit of the mother bear aspect that I believe Brimo embodies.
Reimagining Hecate's Supper - Deipnon:
The ancient tradition of 'Hecate's Supper' Deipnon is central to our commitment. In reimagining this sacred practice, we draw inspiration from the historical roots that suggest its purpose extended beyond the spiritual to the material. Aristophanes' play reflects this, hinting at a more practical function: feeding people experiencing poverty. Our modern interpretation aligns with this ethos as we place protein bars, bottled water, and fresh and dried fruit donations in purple boxes at the crossroads. This symbolic act not only honors the historical traditions but also addresses the tangible needs of those less fortunate in our community.
From creating individual bags that contain personal hygiene and necessities to a small bar of chocolate or a book to read, our goal is to bring some relief to those who may not have the means to get these items. Most recently, our donations included hats, gloves, and warm socks to help with the bitter cold that is just around the corner.
Furever Paws: Extending Compassion Beyond Humanity:
Complementing the sanctuary's commitment is the ongoing support for Furever Paws. This local TNR group, now intricately connected to the sanctuary's expanded role, provides care for the feline population and extends compassion to abandoned and neglected animals in the area. The life force behind this group is Melody Drew. She is a powerhouse of motivation for those in the area to go out daily and feed feral cat colonies around town and actively monitor these colonies to ensure that all the cats are healthy and happy. As for my contributions, I work daily on their social media accounts, sharing the fundraisers and hosting their website. Just as with The Blessing Box of Goldsboro, a portion of all sales from my shop go to support the needs of Furever Paws as much as we can.
From setting out traps for abandoned animals to networking these forgotten pets to new homes via a mass network of caring individuals to get these little guys off the streets and into caring forever homes. Through monthly fundraising and the sales from our shop, the Sanctuary helps network these animals and provide as much support as we can to Melody and her cause.
These projects, rooted in empathy and the desire to uplift those facing adversity, drive my motivation to create content and products for the pagan community. Each dark and full moon, and in the face of challenging weather, donation becomes a ritual, aligning with the historical legacy of Hecate's Supper. On each drop-off day, I post photos and challenge our community to step up and make a difference in any way they can.
In the dance between ancient traditions and contemporary compassion, the sanctuary's evolution is a testament to the fluidity of spiritual roles. As a Keybearer to the Covenant of Hekate and Founder of the Sanctuary of Hecate Brimo, my sanctuary now honors the historical legacy of Hecate's Supper. It is a living embodiment of the timeless ideals of charity, empathy, and communal support. May our torches continue to burn bright, illuminating the path for all who seek solace at the crossroads of life within the embracing arms of the goddess.
To me, working on these sanctuary commitments helps me stay focused on the longer-term goals I have for my sanctuary. Since its destruction by Hurricane Matthew, we are slowly building back up to that same level we had before. I am still living temporarily but strive to live according to the five virtues. As we move into the new year, I challenge all those who follow the path of the natural deities to find that place where you can make a difference. Make donations and spread the word. Please find a way to give back to those who may not have it as well as you do today.
Don't wait for the world to change. Change it.
Blessings

I really love your "new interpretation" of the deipnon and your "compassion projects" for your area. You're doing such a great work! <3 Thank you for sharing and inspiring! Expending our devotional work to help those in need, including animals and the environment is so important, imho.
So eloquently written, and moving.
May we all set our sights, and aim to shed some of our light and the warmth it provides, along the path of the seeker and of those of the subjugated and the weary. Thank you for all you do, Rev. Renee Sosanna Olson.
Is there a website for contributions to the feral orgs?
