David is a Hecatean witch and devotee from Ohio, USA, who has been practicing magick since he was a teenager. He has been on an ever-evolving Hecatean path for almost 20 years. He's a self-titled chaos witch, embracing the concept of chaos as possibility. He is a strong proponent of everyone seeking their own path and encourages everyone to find their own magic and connections through personal experiences and gnosis.
David is a member of the Meditation Project and created for us a very special servitor, Ciara (pronounced kee-ra), the Keeper of the Sacred Grounds of Hekate Potnia Theron and Priestess of her astral temple. Ciara, as you will read in this interview, is not a regular servitor as David created her with the help of Hekate Herself.
Hi David, can you tell us when you started working with servitors and how?
I started working with servitors when I was really young, though I wasn't aware of it at the time. I had a wildly active imagination, as many children do, but despite having friends in day-care or kindergarten classes I always had a few imaginary friends who always seemed to be around and protecting me when I felt scared too. Little did I know that some of those "imaginary friends" would stick around and stay with me onward into adulthood in the form of accidentally birthed servitors. I was around 12 years old when I first heard of servitors as a magical and spiritual construct and I was fascinated. Now I do what feels right to me in manifesting them.
In general, what is the procedure you use to create a magical servitor, if you are willing to share it with us, and how did you change it to create Ciara?
There are a number of procedures that I use. I have an astral temple of sorts which I constructed as a sort of "home base" to be used for both ritual and a storage space for the servitors not currently in use. One way that I usually will manifest a servitor is use a small amount of my own energy in order to form the "heart" and I will leave that energy to mature within the temple over time. In the case of Ciara, though, I meditated on her purpose and communed with Hecate, asking that She provide the heart for Ciara. Unlike my normal process, Ciara manifested extremely quickly, I believe, as a result.
What is, in your opinion, the biggest difference between the usual magical servitors you create everyday and the one you made to protect Hekate's astral space?
I think the biggest difference is that most servitors (with a few exceptions) have a fairly simple formula to follow as far as their job. Protection, bring abundance, amplify one's
personal skills, etc., are all jobs that servitors can do but usually it would be one servitor per one task. For Ciara, she may have a basic task that she does but her overall duties can change depending on the needs of the Sanctuary or the whims of the Goddess.
What was the most difficult/complex part - if there was one - of creating her?
I think the most difficult part, for me, was drawing in the energy from Hecate to use as the heart. That part was entirely dependent on Her will. If She denied me then I would not have been able to continue with the manifestation but thankfully it all worked out!
In our experience, Ciara is a quite strong and somehow "independent" servitor, compared to others... What is your experience with her? She is definitely independent! It isn't unusual for servitors to gain independence over time, but that's over time. I personally have a, I'll call him a familiar, that I manifested as a servitor when I was only 13 years old. He was the first one that I summoned after learning that servitors are a legitimate magical tool. He's been with me for 20 years and act independent of my commands until explicitly given a command. With that being said, Ciara seemed to have become fairly independent remarkably quickly once she entered the Sanctuary's astral
grounds. I only have theories as to why, though.
How do you think she is related to our astral grounds? and to Hekate?
Given that she was created using some of Hecate's energy explicitly to act as a guide and priestess for the astral grounds and for Hecate, it makes sense that she is related. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised that as she continues to grow she begins to express herself more directly in association with the grounds.
Would you do that again?
I would love to help out again anytime! I feel like Hecate brought me this skill, so I should share it!
I would like to thank David for his help with our project - without him Ciara wouldn't be here - and for taking the time to answer to all my questions. Should you have any more questions for him, please feel free to add them in the comment!
I also would like to invite all of you to discover the Sacred Grounds of Hekate Potnia Theron if you haven't done it yet and share with us your experience with Ciara.
Does Mr Bresko have a website, books, etc?
great interview - thanks
Very interesting and informative interview thanks to the interviewer and interviewed.
